2026 Macmillan Coffee Morning

Every year, thousands of people across the UK come together for one simple reason: to enjoy a coffee, share some cake and raise money to support people living with cancer.

This year, 78 York Street, is proud to be taking part in the Macmillan Coffee Morning, continuing a fundraising tradition that has brought communities, workplaces, friends and families together for more than three decades.

Over the past few years, our Macmillan fundraising has raised an incredible £2,919.89. This year, we’re hoping to build on that total and raise even more.

What is the Macmillan Coffee Morning?

he Macmillan Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest annual fundraising event.

The idea began in 1990, when the first Coffee Morning was held with a wonderfully simple concept: people would get together for coffee and donate the cost of their drink to Macmillan. The idea proved so successful that it returned the following year on a national scale. In 1991, around 300,000 people took part, raising more than £250,000 for Macmillan.

Since then, the event has grown enormously. Coffee Mornings now take place everywhere from homes and schools to offices, community centres and workplaces across the UK.

And the idea remains much the same: bring people together, enjoy something delicious and raise money for a very important cause.

The history of Macmillan Cancer Support

The story behind Macmillan goes back much further than the Coffee Morning.

Macmillan was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan, after he experienced the devastating impact of cancer when his father died from the disease. Douglas wanted to make sure that people living with cancer could receive practical help, information and support at a time when very little was available.

In its early years, the organisation provided very practical assistance to people affected by cancer. This included visiting people in their homes, helping with dressings and even providing coal to help keep homes warm.

More than a century later, Macmillan has grown into one of the UK’s best-known cancer charities. Its work has evolved alongside the needs of people living with cancer, providing information, practical support, financial guidance and emotional support, as well as working alongside healthcare professionals and Macmillan nurses.

Although the organisation and the way it works have changed considerably since 1911, its central purpose remains the same: helping people living with cancer get the support they need.

Why are we hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning at 78 York Street?

At 78 York Street, we’re pleased to be continuing our own fundraising tradition this year.

Over the last few years, our Coffee Morning fundraising has raised £2,919.89 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

That total represents more than just a number. It is the result of people coming together, enjoying some cake, making donations and taking a little time out of their day to support a charity that helps people and families affected by cancer.

Having already raised almost £3,000, we wanted to take part again this year and see if we can push that total even further.

We’re hoping that our Macmillan Coffee Morning will be another opportunity to bring people together at 78 York Street while raising as much as possible for Macmillan.

Why fundraising matters

Cancer can have an enormous impact on people’s lives. Alongside medical treatment, people can face practical, emotional and financial challenges, both during treatment and afterwards.

Macmillan provides support to people living with cancer, as well as their families and carers. Its services include cancer information and support, financial guidance, emotional support and work with healthcare professionals across the UK.

Fundraising events such as Coffee Morning help provide vital funds for this work.

That is what makes the Coffee Morning such a special event. Something as ordinary as meeting for coffee and eating a slice of cake can become part of something much bigger.

We’ve already raised £2,919.89 through our previous Macmillan fundraising efforts, and we’d love to add to that total this year.
